Lead and Play

Glass art, restorations, lessons

The workplace

Lood en Spelen is located in the center of Delft.

I provide courses and workshops in my studio at Lange Geer 40. You can walk here in five minutes from both Delft station and the Zuidpoort parking garage.

I carry out assignments such as the manufacture of new windows and the restoration of old windows at Aleid van Malsenlaan.

The materials

Anyone wishing to work with glass will soon discover just how many tools and materials are required. Cutting boards, rulers, glass cutters, various pliers, lead openers and folders, and soldering irons are just a small selection from the assortment. Add to that glass in various types and colors, along with diverse lead types and sizes, and you realize you need to ensure you have sufficient space to store everything. The nice thing is that the materials and tools themselves have changed little over the centuries. Although we no longer have to work with bone tools, and soldering without an open flame is certainly much more pleasant.

From maker

I am Charlotte Bakker-Snel.

Trained as a historian, and through jobs as an educator, curator, and exhibition maker in and for various museums, now an independent glass artist. For me, this is a logical step: stained glass is an age-old craft, and art movements are just as visible in windows as in paintings or other art forms.

Thanks to my background, I can easily create designs that suit a specific (historical) style.
